What a incredible family the V family was! You know when you just click with someone? Well, that's how I felt with this family! Even though the boys weren't too thrilled to be there I still felt like they were my friends! LOL! And the dad.... he cracked me up! He was totally into taking the pictures! He definitely got the gold star award for participating and being a great dad/husband. Most are so not thrilled to be there... but this guy... so positive and fun!

OH BOY was the title of this families card last year as they added one more boy to their family! This year... BE MERRY! And I'm sure the mom has to be merry on a daily basis! LOL! My husband has been taking Payne to the driving range for maybe 2 months now.

The boy loves it.

They spend hours out there.

When Kevin asks him if he wants to leave Payne's reply is, "no"!

A few weeks ago he came home with a blister on his hand.

He's a lefty... only in golf. Odd. So we had to buy him some left handed clubs.

I finally got the opportunity to join them this past Sunday afternoon and snap some shots.

I love ALL of these!

Meet the new Mr. & Mrs.! The new Mrs. has been my neighbor for close to 6 years. When she decided to get married, she asked me to shoot her wedding. I am not, I repeat, I am not a wedding photographer. LOL! My passion is to photograph children! Though, because she is my neighbor and we love her parents... I decided to take it on. And she asked my two crazy kids to be in her wedding... so I had to do it! Of course the day before I had jittery nerves. And the day of... they got worse. My nerves were for two reasons.... flash photography (which I have yet to master) and missing or taking "the" shot out of focus. I guess all photographers go through that when they first start. I have to say once it all started I had fun running around trying to capture everything. Here are a few shots from yesterday.

My husband and I did this shot 10 years ago. We opted NOT to see each other before the wedding and they did not want to either. I think this shot is so cute!

Bittersweet | Tampa Children's photographer

This morning I met up with one of my oldest and dearest friends and her adorable kids at Cracker Barrel to have breakfast and say "goodbye". She's moving to Texas! Sniff sniff. We met back in 1991 at the GAP in Tampa Bay mall. I had just moved to Tampa to continue my college education at USF. She was also in college at USF. We both LOVED baseball and we clicked! We did a lot together. She was one of my go to girls! Of course after college and as time went on, we both moved on in life still keeping in touch. She's one of those friends that if you don't talk to in a long time, you can pick back up like it was yesterday. And even though we don't see each other often b/c of distance (she is in Lakeland, me in South Tampa) and kids, I will miss her terribly! So for the title of this blog post.... bittersweet... as I am sad that she is leaving but I am also so happy for her and her family! They are all going to experience a new chapter in their life and I couldn't be more excited for them!

This was an awesome session! I had so much fun with these three and their mom. A mom who could be your best friend... a mom who appreciates the art of photography. The weather was perfect. Honestly, it kept my mind off of the awful news that I had received hours earlier that my best friend from HS had passed away after multiple cancers and liver failure. I was just devastated, but got myself together and did it! I will miss her terribly... but know she's pain free and in a better place. Make sure you HUG the ones you love tight and slow down your life to enjoy them. LIFE can be taken away in an instant!

take pictures! I'm so glad my kids humor me! We got some much needed rain today and after it passed it continued to stay cloudy. Once Payne woke from his nap I took the kids out to Davis Island to snap a few shots and to see where would be a good place for my clients next week. We were only out there for about 15 minutes before the next round or rain came through.

26 years of service! | Tampa military photographer

This past Friday I had the honor of photographing a military retirement ceremony over at Mac Dilll AFB here in Tampa. A flood of memories came to me as I drove through the gate. It had been a very long time since I had been on the base. I grew up a military brat all over the country and over seas. I'll be honest... I hated it at the time, but have fond memories as I look back on it now. It definitely shaped me to be the person I am today and I have friends ALL over the place!

It was a beautiful ceremony and the kindest words were said of this officer! He had friends come from all over... The only down.... the HEAT! It was a sauna out there! And these poor men in their uniforms. I can't imagine!

Here are a few shots from the day.

One of my favorite shots! He gave both of his sons coins. I remember when my dad retired he gave my sister and me a shadow box with his wings in it. These coins will become even more special to these kids as these they get older!

Facebook.... my husband hates it and thinks it's the demise of society... however I don't share the same view. For me it's been a GREAT way to keep up with friends and reconnect with old friends from my past. Case in point, my friend Ryland from high school. She lives over on the East coast and was coming over to the West coast for the holiday weekend. After reconnecting on Facebook, she asked me to photograph her family and I was quite honored. I believe we've had this in the works since November! So... see, Facebook can be a good thing! LOL!

How about these adorable twins??? We met at Selby Gardens down in Sarasota. It was a gorgeous day but just a tad bit too hot.... welcome summer!

SPECIAL for TEACHER apprecaition week

The first week in May is teacher appreciation week. If you already didn't know I have a soft spot for teachers as I was once one (crossing fingers not to have to go back). I taught learning disabled children grades K-5 for 10 years and then moved on to become an ESE Specialist working with exceptional student education children within the Alternative school for 3 more years before I left to have my first child. Don't get me wrong on the crossing my fingers part. If I could go back and TEACH without all the crap, I would. So instead I take pictures of children and that satisfies my "working with children" itch!

I am offering a special to all the teachers out there who work their bottoms off, who dedicate themselves to OUR children and never treat themselves!

So here is the skinny....

An hour session in the Tampa area and 8 (8x10 and smaller) prints a ($470 value) for $300.
$150 down to hold spot. To be used by end of June. I will take 8% of each session fee and make a donation to Donors Choose.

I'm so thrilled to show off this gorgeous couple ~ Samantha and Tony!!! Samantha and I have been BFF for 17 years now. I couldn't wait to get my camera on her! She is a photographer's dream being that she models part time!!! You can see her here and here (that's all I could find at the moment). She also is co-owner of L'Bella Style Lounge and she does some real estate on the side. And check out her adorable husband who is the owner of Mirabella Motors.

So this shoot has been in the making since for over 8 months. Last August we got rained out and then I began my busy season for the holidays, so she was going to have to wait! LOL! I believe it was worth it!

We started at the Waterside Marriott and then moved over to Ybor City.

PINKBERRY is finally open! | Tampa event photographer

So I know I have been talking a lot about PINKBERRY... well the day finally came and they had the VIP grand opening party this past Thursday night on the patio of Maggianos right across from the store. I was asked to photograph the event and even though I do not do events I could not say no to my dear friend Jackie. The party was a hit and so much fun. They served unlimited Pinkberry to all the guests and you could visit the topping bar and pick whatever you wanted to complete the Pinkberry experience. They also served a Pinkberry alcohol concoction that was so super delicious. The store swirled free Pinkberry with toppings from 6-10. I'd say both were a HUGE success. When I left I was in a Pinkberry coma! I'm totally hooked!!! And YES!!! there is a HUGE difference in taste from those other yogurt stores here in South Tampa! Make sure you give it a try... especially the Lychee (which is seasonal) ... you won't be disappointed.

Yesterday I stumbled upon a food blog that had a cute idea for April fools. It's called Our Best Bites. The post that I am speaking of is called Silly cupcakes. So, this morning I baked the cupcakes. Then while my son napped I decorated them so that I could serve them their "vegetables" this evening as we won't be home to eat tomorrow night (I'm taking the kids to Busch Gardens). And yes, I did this all during our "no named hurricane" that slowly blew through here ALL day. OMG... I have never seen anything like it. About a mile away a tornado touched down. But we are all safe, no damage and no power outage for us thank goodness. Oh, and the kids WERE NOT fooled by these! Can you guess which one they both wanted??? Of course... peas & carrots... lots of candy on top!

PINKBERRY at Teddy's Country Fair

My daughter attends Roosevelt Elementary in South Tampa. Last night was Teddy's Country Fair. A fun evening of bouncy houses, DJ, magic tricks, balloons, games, etc.... AND PINKBERRY!!! It looked like the crowd enjoyed the free samples.

When we started, Mr. B wasn't too sure about me with the camera in his face! He just wouldn't smile no matter what we did. It wasn't until the end that he gave me the best smile ever! He's so sweet. If you could have heard his laugh with this big smile.... melt your heart!

Is there really a perfect time?

I was just sitting here thinking about my life as a mom, wife, daughter, friend... how blessed I am to have such special people in my life... AND how blessed I am to be able to follow my passion of photography. I so love this "job" and still have a lot to learn and accomplish.

I follow a lot of photographers around the country for words of wisdom and inspiration. One being Deb Schwedhelm. A friendship started after an email I sent her when I read her blog back in Dec. 2009 when she posted that they were moving to Tampa. I had the extreme pleasure to get to meet her in person in July 2010. She lives about a mile from me and our kids go to the same school. Cool, I know. Back in May 2010 she posted a very inspiring blog entry titled Is there a perfect time? However it was her April 2010 post titled Family photos with the PS at the end of the post that got me thinking.... I want my own family photos.

Enter another photographer, my dear friend Lori Boynton. Lori and I met in 2009 when I took her family photos. I remember our session well. How beautiful I thought she was and what an adorable family she had. I loved how she brought cute little hats for little Presley. I took the pictures, she ordered and on went our lives. It wasn't until our mutual friend told me that she started her own photography business. I watched from afar and I can't remember exactly when it was, but we just started talking and our friendship blossomed from there. We agreed to trade family sessions. She took our first family session down in Ybor and rocked it! I LOVED and still do love our pictures from this session. I in turn did her maternity session. I also got to spend one afternoon photographing baby A. Then it was time for the Christmas card pictures and AGAIN, she rocked it! I did their Christmas shots and then recently did some shots when we met up one afternoon.

Both photographers gave me so much. Deb gave me the "Aha moment" and Lori executed it for me! I couldn't thank either one of them enough. I so love our family photos that they are all over my house. My husband wondered if people would think that we were "into ourselves" since that was all we had on our walls? I think not! They are so frickin special to me. I am ALWAYS behind the camera for every moment.... Easter, birthdays, beach, Thanksgiving, Christmas.... you get the picture. So to have these pictures.... they mean the world! My FAMILY is it! They are so special to me and I will show them off as much as I want!

So back to the original post that started it all..... Is there really a perfect time? NO! There isn't! PLEASE, go get those family photos done! They are worth the investment... every penny! Everyday is different.... you are different, your kids are different and will never be the same. CAPTURE the moment NOW!!!!! You won't regret it!!!! PROMISE!

The Fight Factory, Crossfit 813 and Pinkberry!!!!!

Yesterday was the grand reopening of The Fight Factory here in Tampa. Their moto, where athletes come to train.

Inside The Fight Factory you can find Crossfit 813. I have yet to do a class, but have heard so much about it! I have to mentally prepare myself for it and I will do one soon.

So are you wondering how PINKBERRY fits with all of this? Well, my girlfriend Jackie is bringing PINKBERRY to Tampa.

Can I get a woot woot???

She has raved about it. I tried it last year over in Orlando and thought it was good. Fast forward to yesterday. Jackie called me and told me to come over to the Fight Factory where PINKBERRY would be set up for the grand reopening. Her son, Jon, is a co-owner of Crossfit 813. They are housed at The Fight Factory so that is how PINKBERRY was there.

Back to PINKBERRY and its yumminess (is that a word?).... Friday night we took the kids out for a treat to celebrate potty training my 2 yo son. We went to a local yogurt place... I won't name it.... and it was good. Then yesterday I try PINKBERRY again and boy do I taste a huge difference. So I change my good to a GREAT!! OMG... I couldn't get enough. I had two cups and wanted more but had lots of willpower as to not look greedy. My kids... not so much! They were all over it! So now I have to wait.... until April 7 for the VIP party... dreaming of the yummy PINKBERRY!

The first month is almost over and phew... this is tough to remember to take a picture everyday.

22/365 Brooke with all the beads she collected at the Gasparilla children's parade last Saturday.

23/365 Lightning vs Atlanta Thrashers. Lightning won 7-1. I went with my best friend Samantha.

24/365 Zappo's chips. Never tired this vodoo flavor. One afternoon Kevin took me and Payne out to lunch at Wright's and Payne saw the bag and said, "Look mom Yo Gabba Gabba chips." Kevin and I laughed as they "people" on this bag of chips do resemble the characters on the show Yo Gabba Gabba. (click on the word Yo Gabba Gabba to see what they actually look like.)

25/365 Took Payne to the park. He likes to slide down the slide on his belly.

18/365 (a late picture) But one of my favorite beverages... diet lemonade. I drink the diet version b/c it doesn't have sugar. That's all. I'm NOT on a diet! LOL!

19/365 (another late picture) American Idol. Time to get my laugh on!

20/365 My world famous banana muffins, ok, their not MY world famous muffins. They are Giada's. But I have been making them for years and know the recipe by heart. Plus I have tweaked it to make it healthier like whole wheat flower instead of white and applesauce instead of oil. So that has to count for something, right?

21/365 The best Christmas gift that I got two years ago! And I had to fight Kevin on getting it. He didn't want to get me an "appliance" for Christmas. Welp, I love it! My dad got one too this Christmas after seeing mine!

My what a difference 9 months makes | Tampa children's photographer

I can't believe how big Mr. B is getting. I photographed him right after he was born. You can see those here and here. Soon after, they moved to San Diego and I was sad to see them go. Now they are back and I couldn't be more thrilled, but it's only because Mr. B's dad is back out to sea until June which is so sad. Sad that he missed out on his son's first Christmas and will miss out on his first birthday and possible his first walk.... However it is a blessing that his dad if fighting for our freedom.

Anyway... look how cute he is? That dimple.... just want to squeeze those cheeks!

In the picture below if you look closely into his right eye you can see the ceiling fan.

Project 365 | Week 1

I have decided to participate in project 365 which is where you take one picture everyday of the year. I am hoping to stick with it... so we'll see. I am doing this with my camera phone so:

1. It's fun.

2. I don't have to "edit- make it perfect".

3. It's quick.

4. I always have my phone and won't have to carry my big camera everywhere I go.

Here is the first week. I decided late January 1st to do this so no picture...

We met over at UT to get some quick shots and then went back to their house on Davis Island to get some more. Mr. M wasn't feeling me that day so I came back to have a play date with Mr. M and Payne and just happened to bring my camera with me as well. I got some really cute shots of the both of them. I had to go back to their house recently to deliver their cards and as soon as Mr. M saw me he said, "No camera." LOL!

Yes, you read that correctly... Mr. J wanted a chicken. We met this morning in one of my favorite places to shoot (with our nose plugs of course)... Ybor City. What is a popalop you ask? Well, silly it's a poppop. (That's what we call it in our family.) Still unsure? It's a lollipop. Isn't it funny how kids have their own way of calling this delicious treat?

How adorable are these three....even more so when you have met them in person! Mr. P was in Brooke's pre-K class last year and it wasn't until this year that I got to know his mom and boy is South Tampa a small world. Mr. P... the sweetest boy ever! I loved seeing him last year in Brooke's class. So polite. And this year I got to meet Miss B... P's sister. She is also so super sweet and that gorgeous red hair... yowza! Now back to the popalop... well Mr. G needed this to continue on our picture taking while we were at UT.

Another weekend out of town... this time to Gulf Shores, Alabama to see my husband's nephew, Dalton, play High School football. We had so much fun spending time with family. On October 1st I flew up to Chicago to go to a photography workshop taught by the great Audrey Woulard. The workshop was all day Saturday and half day Sunday and full of great information. I also met some wonderful photographers from all over. I took lots of pictures of the adorable models she provided for us, but have yet to have any time to edit them. Blah. While in Chicago, I stayed with family and had an AWESOME time visiting with them. A few hours before I left I was able to photograph Suzanne's sweet family. Little D was not in the mood for photos (which is common with the little ones), so to keep him happy... he held a bag of the oh so yummy goldfish! And you know what... who cares! That's who he was at THAT moment and they will always have that memory of him.... memories that quickly escape us! You can get that "perfect" shot when they are older! I'm just giddy with excitement when I look at the photos from a session I did on Saturday morning with the {B} kids! They were perfect, followed directions and were so easy to work with. Their mom, Mary, and I met in 1994 at West Tampa Elementary. There was an opening at the school (which didn't happen often) in what I specialized in (Mary's old position) and I got it. Working there was one of my most favorite times. Mary ended up getting married and having kids and decided to stay home. I would occasionally see her here and there but it wasn't until last year that we ran into each other again. Our kids go to the same school. How about that?!?! I have been given the opportunity to GIVE BACK to my daughter's school (and former workplace), Roosevelt Elementary, by taking B&W pictures of the students of the school for them to sell at the school auction. This past Thursday I took the picture of the {F} girls. While I edited a shot of the three of them... I just sat and stared at it! For some reason the photo (in B&W) just evoked emotion in me. Here are three sisters, very close in age, all a grade level apart and just looking at the picture... meeting them for the first time... I could just see their personalities. It has to be one of my favorite shots ever! So I had to let the mom know... and of course she wanted to see. 2nd annual TEA TIME

Look at these girls! We all met at Gymboree when they were around 6 months and have kept in touch since. I think it's great. We've survived birthday parties, a move for one (and now they are back), and younger brothers for all. Three of them 4 started Kindergarten this year... Miss L 1st grade. Even though only 2 attend the same school I am thrilled we have all kept in touch. Last year we all got together for a back to school tea and this year we decided to do it again and will try to do it every year. This year we had a new member join us... the ever so sweet Miss A. Here are some shots from today. I wish I can find the picture of the 4 of them on the bench that I took last year so we can see how they've grown.
